A decade marked by historic events: the rise of neoliberalism, the arrival of AIDS, the fall of the Berlin Wall… A dream decade for those nostalgic for early video games, personal computers, cassette Walkmans and, of course, its hit songs!
But it was also a decade fantasised about for its parties that lasted until the end of the night, its eccentricities, its flashy fashion and its pop stars. We share with you fifteen of these hits, such as Les démons de minuit, Capitain Flam, and Material Girl. With these songs interwoven with journalistic texts, we hope to delightfully transport you into this colourful decade of social movements. With excerpts from the following texts: ‘Punk ideology’, Wikipedia; ‘The 1980s’ by Isabelle Papieau; ‘How television talked about AIDS in 1982,’ Le Point, by Pauline Tissot; ‘AIDS, a covered-up evil,’ Libération by Eric Favereau; ‘Berlin, 9 November 1989: the crazy night that brought down the Wall,’ TF1, news by Sylviane Moukheiber.
