Project statement
The Railway Station in Dunleer, County Louth, Ireland, is a protected structure built in 1881.
This renovation project focused on restoring the building’s original character while respecting its heritage status. Although the station had already undergone a renovation in 2005, many of its original windows and doors had been blocked with bricks or wooden panels painted in trompe-l’œil.
The goal of this project was to reopen these historic openings and recreate the authentic design of the station, using a photographic survey to carefully reconstruct the original appearance.
My workflow
To manage this renovation efficiently, I organized the model into three categories: existing, to be demolished, and new elements.
This structure allowed me to use graphic substitutions that could instantly show, hide, or override elements depending on the type of drawing needed.
With everything modeled in 3D, I was able to produce existing plans, demolition plans, and proposed plans quickly, while ensuring that all sections and elevations were automatically generated to match the design.
This workflow not only saved time but also provided a clear and accurate way to handle the complexity of working on a protected historic building.
